Cog Staking FAQ
How Cogent Cog staking works, and what to expect from it.
- How do distributions work?
- Block rewards are paid out continuously as they come in. Commission rewards are paid out at the end of each epoch. Cogent Cog staking uses gem farm to distribute rewards to Cog holders.
- How much will my Cogs earn?
- Each staked Cog earns 0.01% of all Cogent Crypto validator revenue — so a rough estimate is total validator revenue over a period multiplied by 0.0001 per Cog. Future earnings depend heavily on how MEV and block rewards grow over time.
- What happens if I stake my Cogs and forget to claim?
- Nothing is lost. Once validator reward SOL is placed into the staking mechanism, Cogent Crypto cannot access those funds. Only Cogs that were staked at the time of a distribution can claim it, and there is no time limit or expiration on claiming.
- Why do I need to create a staking account first?
- Staking requires a farmer account on-chain that tracks your position and accrued rewards. Creating it is a one-time transaction costing roughly 0.008 SOL as a rent-exempt deposit. There is no protocol fee, and the deposit is recoverable if the account is later closed.
- What does "cooling down" mean?
- Unstaking moves a Cog into a cooldown period rather than returning it to your wallet immediately. During cooldown you can either withdraw it to your wallet or put it straight back to work by re-staking.
